About K4M2 AI
We build useful AI in service of a larger purpose.
AI is becoming part of how organisations think, decide, create, and operate. But access to a powerful model does not produce a useful system on its own. Two organisations can use the same model and reach entirely different outcomes.
The model matters, and so do the problem chosen, the workflow around it, the quality of evaluation, the people responsible for it, and the changes an organisation is prepared to make.
K4M2 AI builds AI products and systems that work in practice, not only in a demonstration.
We are being built as the commercial arm of K4M2A Foundation, and the relationship between the two is written into how the company is governed. The Foundation sets and protects the mission. The company earns the revenue, capability, and resources to sustain it. Neither role is enough on its own.
The rest of this page explains what we build, how the two institutions fit together, and the commitments we intend to be held to.
What we build
We work across the full path from understanding a problem to deploying and improving a working system. We begin with the problem, not with the assumption that AI must be the answer. When a simpler solution would work better, we say so.

Subhash Trivedi, founder. He works on AI strategy, product direction, and the design of the systems described on this site, and is the author of the research published under Insights.
K4M2 AI is small and early. Naming one person here rather than a page of stock portraits is deliberate: you should know who is accountable for what this company publishes and builds.

Structurally accountable to its purpose
Governance →K4M2 AI is not an ordinary commercial company with a charitable commitment attached to it. Its relationship with K4M2A Foundation is built into its governance.
The Foundation will control the composition of the company's governing board, hold special voting rights over decisions that could alter the mission or control, and receive a defined share of profits. Decisions capable of changing the company's purpose, structure, relationship with the Foundation, or control of strategically important assets will require the Foundation's approval.
These protections exist so the mission cannot be removed because leadership, ownership, investment, or commercial circumstances change. The structure is designed to protect the purpose beyond the involvement of any individual founder or executive.
How profit serves the mission
Profit and mission →The company must remain financially strong to support its people, continue developing products, invest in research, and make long-term decisions. It will retain the resources required to operate responsibly and independently.
A defined share of distributable profits will be transferred to K4M2A Foundation to support research, education, open technologies, fellowships, public-interest infrastructure, and other initiatives aligned with its mission. This will be established through a defined, documented, and reviewable mechanism rather than left to occasional generosity.
Profit is necessary. It is not the final purpose.
Governance protects the purpose of the company. Our everyday practices determine whether that purpose is visible in the work.
We build around real problems and observable outcomes. We do not manufacture urgency, pad estimates, recommend unnecessary AI, or accept work that depends on exhaustion, deception, or avoidable harm. We believe the people who create value should participate meaningfully in it, that consequential decisions should follow clear rules rather than private arrangements, and that disagreements should be raised directly rather than left to become resentment.
We do not treat growth, engagement, valuation, or capability as purposes in themselves. Growth is useful when it strengthens the work, the people doing it, and the larger mission.
How we participate in what we create
Ownership and participation →The company is built through the work, judgement, knowledge, relationships, and risk contributed by people over time. We do not believe all value should accumulate only with those who contributed capital first or already hold authority.
Compensation, profit participation, and ownership should follow documented rules rather than private access or proximity to power, and the people who help build the company should participate meaningfully in the value they create.
The responsibility of building AI
Responsible AI standard →Technical possibility is not sufficient justification for building a system. AI can expand human understanding and capability. It can also obscure responsibility, concentrate control, increase dependence, and scale harmful incentives.
We want the systems we build to increase people's ability to understand, question, decide, create, and cooperate. People should know when AI is involved. Important outputs should be open to review. Responsibility should remain identifiable. The consequences of failure should be considered before deployment, not only after harm occurs.
How we choose and refuse work
Choosing and refusing work →The availability of a budget does not make a project useful, responsible, or right for us. Before accepting significant work, we examine whether the problem is real, whether AI is appropriate, who benefits, who carries the risk, and whether responsibility can remain visible.
We will refuse work whose primary value depends on deception, covert manipulation, compulsive engagement, exploitative surveillance, or the unnecessary removal of meaningful human agency. Legal permission is a minimum condition. It is not sufficient justification. Potential revenue does not create an obligation to build.
What should remain commercial, and what should become public
Public goods and open technology →Commercial ownership can provide the resources to build, maintain, and improve technology over time. But it should not automatically determine the future of everything the company creates.
Some products may remain proprietary because that is the most effective way to sustain them. Other technologies may become too important to education, human well-being, public reasoning, safety, or access to knowledge to remain under exclusive commercial control. Where appropriate, technologies may be released as open source, transferred to K4M2A Foundation, placed under public-interest governance, or made available as shared infrastructure.
Commercial ownership is a means of sustaining work. It is not an unrestricted claim over everything the work produces.
What success means to us
Financial performance alone is not sufficient.
Revenue, profitability, and financial resilience matter. The company cannot serve its purpose without remaining economically strong. We will also measure success by:
